We are entering month two of our second semester. My hope is that your family has begun building some new approaches to the trials and triumphs of school challenges.
This month, we will jump on some handy strategies for catching and tracking the inevitable blunders.
Using the Semester Lifecycle as our guide, we are able to predict the challenges and plan strategies to match. Get ready. Get set. Go!

We Might Backslide, But We Don't Give Up
It's Predictable: Expect a steady backslide, including missed instruction and forgotten tasks, despite all the same efforts from our struggling students.
How We Can Help: This month we will watch our students experience the realization that their executive function shortcomings, specifically with working memory and sustained attention, are all coming back.
It's not an effort thing. It's nature.
We, the parents, will arrive triumphantly with love, strategies, and hope. We will work with our struggling student, using stellar note taking skills to show our students that mistakes are solvable problems.
That is, as long as we can work together to catch and track fixing them.
Here's the plan:
We will talk about grades (without waging war). We will do this weekly. Using the grade report to our advantage, we will convert mistakes into opportunities and position ourselves onto a collaborative team with our students. (See.. Talking Grades, Without Waging War)
We will catch the blunders, track the progress, and stay on top of the backlog of missing assignments, late work, and retaking of tests. We will role model, for our students, how to set aside time to catch our mistakes and track the progress with fixing them. (See.. Catch & Track Academic Blunders Together)
We will manage time in a way that makes sense to our time blind students, so they can see, understand, and control their plans. (See.. It's Time To Manage Time)
